General Information

Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering is located in Kuala Belait and was originally established in 1970 as an engineering craft trade school. Over the ensuring years it continued to expand and in 1987 it was upgraded to a College of Engineering.

The College offers a comprehensive range of craft, technician and ad-hoc courses developed in response to demand from the public and private sectors of Brunei Darussalam economy. In particular, the College operates closely with the Brunei Shell Trainin g Centre at Seria.

Courses are offered through eleven sections within the College organisational structure and these sections include :

Technician level courses of 2 1/2 years duration are offered on a sandwich basis and lead to the Brunei National Diploma. These courses include :

The sandwich method of course delivery consists of alternate periods of instruction at the College and training with an employer on-the-job.

At the craft level, a locally developed National Trade Certificate course is offered to students having completed the Brunei Junior Certificate of Education Examination. Modular first semester units emphasize basic engineering skills at the craft level and prepare students for the more specialized second semester modules in Welding, Automotive, Machining and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning.

Established course curricula at the craft and technician levels are supported by a range of general educational subjects which included among others English, Mathematics , Science and Computer Applications.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

ENROLMENT

Accepted applicants are requested to enrol at the time, date and venue advised by the Principal.

AGREEMENT

All students attending full-time courses are required to sign an Agreement once enrolled in the College.

ATTENDANCE

Regular and punctual attendance and class participation are required. Students are assumed ready to exercise responsibilities, therefore they should try as far as possible to fix appointments or engagements outside lesson time. Persistent late comers and absentees may have their allowances deducted accordingly.

Permission to the absent from classes whether for a short period such as for a medical examination, or a long one such as for the pilgrimage to Mecca, must be sought in advance from the Principal

If a student has an attendance for the course of less than 85%, then he/she will not be allowed to sit for a Public Examination at Government expenses.

DISCIPLINE

Students are expected to maintain good order and discipline, both on the College premises and elsewhere.

Students are also reminded that the College procedures may be subject to revision by the College authorities, and they should, from time to time, look at the students' notice board to take note of any changes.

Every student is responsible for his/her own actions. Good moral values and attitudes should be practised. Respect towards fellow students, members of staff and the Principal must be shown at all times.

WITHDRAWAL FROM COLLEGE

Students wishing to withdraw before the completion of their courses must inform the Principal officially in writing. Any student who resigns before completion his/her course has to refund the allowance paid to him/her up to the date he/she resigns.

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING

All BDTVEC student courses are required to do an industrial attachment as part of the Course Programme for a period of 6 months maximum.

For C&G student courses may also require to do an industrial working experience or an industrial visit to appropriate places.

An attendance during the industrial attachment is compulsory. An 85% ruling attendance is also applicable.

HOSTEL FACILITIES

The college provides hostel accommodation for students who are from other districts and from rural areas. The hostel is equipped with a Surau, recreational, sports and other ECA facilities

Students should observe and obey the hostel rules and regulations at all times

ALLOWANCE

Full-time Government Scholarship students are eligible for a monthly allowance as follows:
Technician Courses

Students who live more than 8 km from the College or place of attachment are entitled to an allowance of $45.00 per month.

An additional allowance of $140.00 per month is also payable during the industrial attachment period

COLLEGE UNIFORM

Students must wear the proper College uniform during College hours, on official visits or at other times when requested by the Principal
Male Students :
Long cotton/tetron black trousers and white collar shirt.
Female Students :
Black 'sarong laboh' and white 'Baju kurong' and white tudong.

Male Muslim students are encouraged to wear songkok respectively.

Protective clothing and footware will be provided for Government Scholarship students who are attending full-time courses.

Safety boots and coveralls must be worn in all workshops. For safety reasons, jewellery such as rings, bracelets or necklaces must not be worn in the workshop.

COLLEGE LIBRARY
The library provides a service to all sections at this College. The library is situated next to Electrical and Electronic Section Workshop.

A loan service is available to teachers and other educationalists in the area as well as to representatives of local Industry, by arrangement.

The library staff are always prepared to help the students and teachers/instructors to find the information they require and to provide further information about the library and learning resources.

Opening hours for the library are from 7.45 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. during College hours

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
It is compulsory for students to take part in the College extra curricular activities which are organised by various College ECA committees. These activities include sports and welfare activities and religious functions. Extra Curricular Activities ar e normally carried out after College Hours as per prior arrangement.
COLLEGE SURAU
All Muslim students, especially those who are staying in the College Hostel, are encouraged to make use of the Surau facilities to perform prayers.
STUDENTS COUNSELLING
The Welfare and Counselling officer of this College provides assistance services who are having difficulties in their academic performance, social and personal problem. Students are welcome to'drop in' at anytime, or make appointment. No matter is too trivial if it affecting study and counselling can offer give valuable help and support.

The officer always communicate and cooperate with head of sections, members of staff and Hostel Warden, in order to identify serious problem faced by students.

In addition to providing the counselling, the officer also encourage students to think openly and so that they can satisfy the need of their future career.
