Background

 

OPERATIONS AND FLIGHT SAFETY SECTION

 

Responsibilities

The Operations Section of the Department of Civil Aviation is responsible for ensuring that the National laws and Regulations, and the International Standards and Procedures Appurtenant to Flight Operations, Airworthiness, Flight Crew Licensing and Aerodromes Operations are strictly adhered to by all concerned.

To achieve this, a programme of route checks, out-station inspections and companies audit was carried out during the year. This sections also carried out routine inspections and constantly monitoring the on going projects at Brunei International Airport.

 

Organisational Structure

The Operations Section has a total of 8 local personnel which comprised of four Operations Officer, two Operations Assistant and two clerks. In addition to that, this section also supported by two contracted staff from United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority, performing and advising matters concerning Airworthiness and Flight Operations.

 

RESCUE AND FIRE – FIGHTING SERVICE

 

Responsibilities

The function and responsibilities of Airport Fire Services (AFS) Department of Civil Aviation are as follows :-

To provide and maintain Fire Protection and Safety Services to aircrafts using the Brunei International Airport in accordance with the recommendation and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

To provide Rescue and Fire Fighting Services to passengers involved in aircraft accident or incident both on and within the immediate vicinity of the airport.

To provide a Fire Fighting Service to fight fire in aircrafts and buildings on any part of the airport.

To provide Fire Protection Services and to give Technical Advices on fire precautions and fire fighting.

 

Level of Fire Protection

The Airport Fire Services is responsible to provide fire protection to both Brunei International Airport and Istana Heliport.

Base on the dimensions and movements of aircrafts using the Airport and Heliport, the Airport category for rescue and fire fighting is currently on CATERGORY 8 and CATEGORY 2 for the Heliport.

Meanwhile, base on the dimensions and movements of aircrafts plus the availability of fire vehicles provided at the Airport and Heliport, the fire protection capability at Brunei International Airport is currently on CATERGORY 8 dimension upgraded from CATERGORY 10 in 1996 and CATEGORY H.2 for the Heliport.

The Airport Fire Service currently has a total of 121 personnel and divided into 4 units ie. Operational Unit, Training & Development Unit, Fire Safety Unit and Support & Coordination Unit.
